The comfort of the patients and their families, along with advanced diagnosis, treatment and therapy, is the most important objective of Texsan Heart Hospital. Texsan's patients have access to advanced technology and surgical techniques in a hospital specially designed for their treatment and recovery. From admission until discharge, patient care focuses on personal needs, comfort and convenience.

Texsan's patient-focused care model features private rooms -- a component of its uniquely designed facility. The patient remains in this room throughout his/her stay at the hospital, thereby preventing unnecessary stress caused by transporting the patient from room to room. Each room has a private restroom, sleeper sofa and a recliner to help ensure a comfortable stay for the patient and his/her family.

Staffing based on acuity levels promotes lower nurse to patient ratios, which is another important component of Texsan's patient-focused care model. At other hospitals, a nurse can be responsible for up to eight patients. Texsan's telemetry nurses average four patients at a time. For open-heart patients, the nurse to patient ratio at Texsan is typically 1-to-1 for at least the first 12 to 24 hours.

Texsan Heart Hospital is a licensed acute care facility with a primary focus on providing leading cardiovascular care to the Southwest Texas region. Opened in January 2004, this 190,000 square foot hospital features four operating suites, four cardiac catheterization labs, a 10-bed day patient area and a cardiovascular emergency department.

Texsan Heart Hospital is a result of the efforts of local physicians to create the finest facility in San Antonio for cardiovascular care. The hospital is partially owned by its parent company MedCath, which is based in North Carolina, and local physicians. It is a facility designed by the physicians who practice here to help make patients and their families as comfortable as possible, while providing caregivers with the tools they need to provide outstanding care.
