San Antonio Shopping Guide
an Overview of Shopping in San Antonio, Texas
There are many hot shopping spots in San Antonio, Texas, including shopping strips, antique store, malls and even markets. If you travel to downtown San Antonio, you will find the local "Mercado," (Spanish word for market) also known as The Market Square. In the Mercado, you will find several vendors selling many local, great Mexican antiques and crafts. You will find piñatas, masks, wall art, dresses, ceramics and even furniture.
The Market Square has an indoor shopping area with several vendors as well. You will have a pleasant experience shopping here as the atmosphere has great music, fruit stands and even a couple of great Mexican restaurants around. Be sure to take in lunch or dinner while you are shopping around The Mercado. You will definitely enjoy the authentic Mexican food that is offered around the Mercado. Prices are not bad and the food is great.
If you are a mall shopper, San Antonio has several malls around town (over five indoor shopping malls). A local favorite is North Star Mall off Loop 410 and San Pedro. La Cantera has a few cooling stations to cool off and all store are air-conditioned, but beware that it gets pretty hot. There are also other indoor malls around town and many outdoor shopping strips that include favorite stores such as Alamo Ranch, Huebner Oaks, The Quarry, The Forum and The Rim (quickly becoming a new local favorite).
As far as antiques go, there are a few shops around town to look for some good finds. The area off I-10E and Hildebrand Avenue offers a great strip of antique shopping. San Antonio is also home to one of Texas' largest collections of European and American antiques: Charlott's Antiques and Clocks.
