An extensive exhibit of the history of the magic lantern, predecessor of the slide projector and motion projector, can be found at the Magic Lantern Castle Museum. The museum is located in an old castle-themed nightclub northeast of downtown San Antonio, a mile north of Fort Sam Houston. More than 200 years of magic lantern history is chronicled at the museum, from the lantern's beginnings in the 1600s until the rise of motion projectors in the late 1800s.
