300 Alamo Plz San Antonio, TX 78205(210) 225-1391 |
One of America’s most revered historic landmarks, the Alamo was the site of the Texas Revolution’s most memorable battle, the remarkable 13-day siege fought by such brave, but outnumbered Alamo defenders as Davy Crockett, William B. Travis and Jim Bowie. Visited by millions each year, who come to see the legendary grounds, the site features the restored 18th century church and Long Barracks, and displays such fascinating artifacts as Davy Crockett's buckskin vest and a ring worn by William B. Travis. The Clara Driscoll Theater, also on site, offers a seventeen minute documentary about the legendary fort. Located in the heart of the city, a short distance from the famed River Walk, the site's centuries-old stone buildings stand out against the modern San Antonio skyline.

I still have memories of learning about this place back in elementary school. It was great to see the actual site, and there's some great stories to hear.
